Art is a broad collection of human activities with varying levels of complexity, creativity, aesthetic beauty, physical power, emotional strength, or other emotional significance. It is a broad term that can include visual, performing arts, writing, and music. All these disciplines share the ability to create beauty in the form of art. This article focuses on four types of art – children’s art, abstract art, visual/performative arts, and visual culture.
Children’s Art – this is usually called children’s art because it is usually created and exhibited by children. The most common form of children’s art is pottery, ceramics, figurines, and other artifacts made of clay. Art that involves form, color, and unity of objects is considered to be part of this genre of arts. Examples of fine arts that belong to this category are painting, sculpture, printmaking, and collage. This category is very popular amongst kids.
Abstract Art – this is an artistic style that exhibits unique visual qualities. Some examples of this include photographic sculpture, fauvism, and futurism. It usually combines elements of architecture, visual design, and technical craftsmanship. These are some of the most popular forms of arts around the world. Examples of this include Dadaism, surrealism, and Cubism.
Visual Art – this includes drawing, painting, film, and video. Some visual art forms can be represented in a number of ways. Paintings, for instance, can be classified according to the medium used (the paint used, the medium it was made with, and so on). Film is represented by motion pictures and films within the industry are further subdivided into documentaries, entertainment, and motion graphics. Drawing and painting are included among the visual arts.
Performing Arts – this includes the three major disciplines of music, dance, and spectacle. The performing arts include opera, drama, comedy, dramatic expression, dramatic motion picture and sculpture. Music, dance, and spectacle each have their own specific categories of fine art.
Within these three broad classifications: the term “fine arts” itself can differ. This is partly due to differences in the conventions used to define them. Most definitions use a definition which considers composition as a totality, instead of focusing on the visual aspects of a creation. Other variations tend to be more dependent on the dominant culture from which the art form came. Other definitions use a more contemporary definition of the term fine arts, retaining characteristics of both the traditional and the contemporary definitions.
Still, others rely on the relative positions of such art forms within other areas, including culture, literature, and technology.
