Tom Wesselmann, one of the co-writers of Finding Nemo, is back with another great album, titled What’s Free? The follow-up to last year’s chart-topping Finding Nemo, What’s Free is sure to become a cult favorite. A fun and lively album filled with songs dedicated to all things happy and whimsical, the album features several of the original characters from the animated film as well. A trio of songs even tones down the slapstick comedy for a more serious and romantic tone, proving that Wesselmann knows how to take the cake (or should I say the song?)
The latest release of What’s Free? features three new songs titled, appropriately enough, “What’s New,” “I’m Going To The Beach,” and “otropic.” While some of the songs from Finding Nemo were already popular, such as, “Come On You Yourself,” “Blue Man Group,” and, believe it or not, “Dancing In The Sun,” these new songs are sure to make what is already a great album even better. One song, “otropic,” is actually a slow paced acoustic number that provides a nice break from the constant fun and laughter of the movie and serves as a nice complement to the score.
One song that really caught my attention: was the extremely emotional and powerful “Iris.” One of the main characters in the film, Miss Piggy, seemingly wants to let go of her large purple fur coat, but is stopped by her owner (yes, her owner!). As the two fight, the audience slowly realizes that Miss Piggy has a crush on Henry, the owner’s young son. This emotional song may be the strongest of the collection, which is quite surprising considering that the album is indeed filled with joyful and light music. It also stands out among the more traditional love songs because it deals with a subject few listeners are willing to discuss (pregnancy).
One of the most popular songs: on The Miserable Things is “Haitian Divorce” by David Gray. As the title suggests, this song deals with the sad reality of marital divorce. This politically themed song is a perfect addition to any MP3 free download full album. The lyrics are quite haunting, especially when performed by David Gray. He captures the heartstrings quite easily with these songs.
My favorite track on the entire album – which happens to be one of my personal favorites, was “Haitian Divorce II” by David Gray. Another fantastic ball player (vocals), this time of an acoustic guitar. The tempo of this song is perfect for those times when you just want to listen to yourself sing. The title, ‘Haitian Divorce II’, inspires me as I’m from Florida and know how common divorces are down there. ‘Haitian Divorce II’ might be the most depressing song you’ll hear all in one song.
It’s amazing how David Gray: managed to make this completely politically incorrect yet at the same time touching tune sound amazing on an ear catching high quality sound CD. A perfect example of how impeccable David Gray’s guitar skills are, in my opinion. Toe Break off the Miserable Things is definitely worth a download, if you’re looking for a great lesson on how to sing songs that you didn’t know how to write.
The man knows his stuff, so expect this release to fly off the shelves like wildfire.
